Despite suburban conveniences and easy access to Philadelphia and Wilmington, Del., the area retains a significant rural feel. Greater West Chester is a thriving and diverse community with great opportunities for cultural and recreational activities. The Greater West Chester community consists of townships that include Birmingham, East Bradford, East Goshen, Thornbury, West Goshen, Westtown and the Borough of West Chester. It is one of three original counties created by William Penn in 1682. It is named for Cheshire, England. West Chester is the county seat.
